Meet
the
Risk
Taker

On more than one level...

Going it alone in business has always felt like part of the destination for me. After years of working inside businesses, alongside them, and jumping into everything from short-term projects to long-term roles, I decided it was time to back myself, take a calculated risk of my own, and create Risky Business.

Hi my name is Gillian Jones - Workplace Health and Safety Coach, and the risk taker behind Risky Business.

My career has taken me through health and safety, training, learning and development, business and leadership across New Zealand and Australia.

And when I say I’ve seen a bit — I really have.

I’ve worked across plumbing, gas fitting, drain laying, drilling, boiler companies, mining, factories, timber and food processing, shopping centers, aged care, community and humanitarian support organisations, and plenty in between. My experience has extended into training Indigenous communities — working with apprentices and tradies, frontline teams and diverse communities, through to business owners, senior leaders and boards.

Different industries. Different people. Different risks.

And one thing has remained pretty consistent — People are the heart of everything.

My background in training, mentoring and learning and development has shaped the way I approach health and safety.

I don’t just want to tell someone what to do. I want them to understand why, know how, and have the confidence to put it into action.

Because I’ve learnt something pretty important:

That’s why I’m a Workplace Health & Safety Coach, rather than a consultant. I’d rather sit down, have a decent conversation, ask a few curly questions and help you build the knowledge and confidence to make good decisions for your business.

  • Risky Business isn’t a big corporate operation — it’s me.

  • No subscriptions.

  • No ongoing contracts.

Just practical experience, straight-up conversations and support when you need it. Because when people understand safety, take ownership of it and have the confidence to lead it — that’s when it becomes part of how you do business.

And that’s where the good stuff happens.

The best health and safety system in world is useless if nobody understands it, owns it, or actually uses it.
